Made of abaca fiber, which come from leaves of a species of banana plant native to the Philippines, the textile for this coin purse must first be tied in a specific pattern in order to create the ikat design. Then it is dyed with natural plant dyes, mostly once, but sometimes twice (after another step of being untied) to get a second color. This has been a practice for generations of this southern indigenous tribe. Since it is handmade, each one is unique, and no two are alike.
Supporting, preserving, and celebrating indigenous tribes and their rich cultures is at the heart of KINdom. We are all KIN.
