Spread Love, Spread Peace

In December 1865, following the Civil War, the 14th Amendment wars ratified, abolishing slavery. When the emancipation proclamation was signed, Black people were promised land that would have given them access to the wealth they themselves had created, as a result of Union General William T. Sherman promising to redistribute 400,000 acres of formerly Confederate-owned land. This would have given a bit of access to the wealth that they themselves produced, when they worked the land as former slaves.

But, they were ultimately denied it, when President Andrew Johnson, a former slave owner, overturned it.

At the same time, as Martin Luther King, Jr. pointed out in some of his last work, the government gave away millions of acres in the west and midwest to white people. King said, “not only did they give the land, they built land grant colleges with government money to teach them how to farm; not only that, they provided county agents to further their expertise in farming; not only that, they provided low interest rates in order that they could mechanize their farms.”

As a brand who believes that social justice is environmental justice, in honor of Martin Luther King Day, we are redistributing 40% of proceeds from sales to Black Farmer Fund, an organization that creates a thriving, resilient, and equitable food system by investing in black food systems entrepreneurs and communities, ensuring they have the resources they have been needing for the past 150+ years. Please join us in this cause and help elevate humankind and create a better KINdom.

Much gratitude.
